Our style of bellydance offered at TRIBAL JEWELS DANCE COMPANY is a blend of gypsy dances from Egypt, Spain, Turkey, Morocco, Rajasthan India, & Asia. Created by two Founding Masters from the USA, Carolena Nericcio, Director of Fat Chance Belly Dance & Paulette Rees-Denis, Director of Gypsy Caravan. Progressive courses are inspired by their teachings.
Beginner : Classes are described as welcoming, friendly, encouraging & empowering. Jacqueline's experienced teaching skills (since 1996) will encourage each new beginner to have a positive outlook towards their body. Jacqueline has a natural ability with connecting with her students as part of sharing together as a group. What to expect with technique: You will learn the first basic steps & the ideal posture for the dance & the weight distribution from one foot to the other. Jacqueline will explaining the foot positions to start you off with the 4 basic steps. Arabic, Egyptian, Hip Bump & Shimmy steps. We will drill these basic steps in fun combos & in no time you & your class will be moving together as a synchronized group by the end of your first 6-10 week course. Courses run in 5 or 10 week blocks: You can join in anytime as most steps are reviewed at the beginning of each class so you can easily catch up (or book a private to get it quicker). All classes start with a 7-10 minute warm up. Please arrive on time to ensure that you don't miss out on your important warm up. If you do arrive late, please warm up and stretch before joining in.
What to Wear? Something comfortable for ease of movement, similar to gym or yoga wear eg. a stretch top, tights or leggings. Harem pants or pantaloons. A shawl for your hips or hip scarf. As you progress into another course you will be informed of the ideal attire & costuming. Jacqueline will inform you of places to shop for these locally & online to match other members in the dance school. No shoes are required, we dance bare foot!
What to Bring? A hip scarf/shawl or tribal style belt, a water bottle & your sense of adventure & enthusiasm!
